The British Hospital was founded in Uruguay in 1857.

Its history has proudly unfolded alongside that of a thriving country, which has grown and transformed into one of the most beautiful places to live in Latin America.

In its first relocation in 1913, the Hospital moved to its current site, where it has continually developed to become one of the most modern healthcare institutions in the country.

The British Hospital was a pioneer in medical insurance, introducing the “Hospital Scheme” over 60 years ago—a high-quality health coverage programme that has evolved to become one of the most prestigious healthcare products in the country.
