Recently, the British Hospital has expanded its facilities aiming at oncologic patients, which were designed according to the needs of the specific services that we provide to members and the multidisciplinary medical team which support them. The Oncology Unit was relocated in the second floor of the British Hospital Main Building, with more space, equipment and support of its facilities and services. Thus, the place has a day care area equipped with 10 rooms or boxes, 8 of them with suite toilets, 3 exclusive consulting rooms and 2 nursing areas, designed according to the kind of equipment and comfort of the British Hospital. All the spaces show a warm and comfortable design to guarantee the caregivers and the patient ‘care not only regarding the attention but also from the experience itself. Doctor Mario Varangot, head of the service, recalled that oncology is a specialty which works together with other specialties, such as radiotherapy, surgery, hematology, anatomopathology, urology and gynecology, among others, as well as with the nursing staff. "Decisions are made according to an oncology team and not separately. We are permanently doing athenaeums where different specialists take part. The multispecialty is very important, "he explained. In addition, he mentioned they are working with patients “on the concept that they are treated by a team, despite the fact that they may have a closer relationship with some professionals, something that is natural”. "The value of human resources and professionals’ integration reflects in a better care attention to patients. Is a guarantee for them," highlighted Varangot. He stressed the importance of the usual physical space, especially the athenaeums` room, because "the multidisciplinary needs to have a place of reference and a sense of belonging, which is transmitted to all professionals." Most oncologists are or have been teachers at the University of Medicine, it is a very strong team, that is opened to all professionals` opinions, including the nursing staff, generating a great confidence to the patient and the family, "he showed. The nursing staff of the British Hospital Oncology Unit receives the highest qualification from patients. "In chemotherapy treatments, for example, the patient spends a lot of time in touch with the nurses. Their feedback and participation in these instances of dialogue is essential, very enriching, and we appreciated it very much, "he mentioned.
