Surgical psychoprophylaxis: we keep moving forward

Along with the adoption in all areas of better practices on psychoprophylaxis, we have incorporated toy cars as an alternative for small children to make the route from the paediatric room to the operating room in a playful way, reducing their stress levels as well as the anxiety and fear levels that are inherent of the operating process.

Since some weeks ago, children between 2 and 7 years old, get the novelty of travelling by car to the operating room, always accompanied by their parents.

The British Hospital was pioneer in the 90’s in allowing the parents by their children’s side until these receive their anaesthesia, constituting their main support during the entire process.

The cars give us a new opportunity for improving the experience of the children and their family.

Parents participate in the tour and remain by their children until the moment in which they fall asleep by the anaesthesia procedure.

The initiative was very well received by the families, who expressed their gratitude for the experience with their children.
